As fiber art enthusiasts and Shephards, we wanted a faster way to make products from our fleeces. Needle felting loom technology had not been available for use by the individual fiber artist, breeder or processing businesses. This became the focus of a group of farmers in Kentucky. We had several machines built and have tested them. We worked with The University of Kentucky, Center for Manufacturing to refine the original designs. The UK CFM provided the engineering and modeling expertise required to build new production prototypes for us. The FeltLOOM® has been in use and tested with sheep, alpaca, llama, and angora for more than 3 three years. The felt is made as batting is passed through the rollers of the FeltLOOM® then hundreds of barbed needles tangle the fibers together. Its that simple.
We received the patent on a needle felting loom for fiber artist in October 2008.
Our company has worked with the Kentucky Agriculture Development Board, Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation and the Innovation and Commercialization Center to guide us through the process of new product development and market preparation. We are grateful to all of the organizations for their support and guidance through this development process.
